Little Journey

Reducing anxiety in children through virtual reality

Little Journey is an interactive virtual reality app which reduces anxiety in children by allowing them to simulate a clinical setting before hospital visits for surgery or radiotherapy. Children can see areas of the hospital where their procedure will take place and interact with cartoon versions of the staff they will see on the day.

Health Innovation East commissioned an evaluation for the Little Journey app across five pilot sites and has continued to support expansion into new sites. Ongoing commercialisation support is also being provided to the app’s creators, Little Sparks Hospital, to enable organisational sustainability.

Scaling up through the NHS Innovation Accelerator

Little Journey was selected as an NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) 2021 Fellow, which supports innovations which offer solutions to some of the NHS’ most pressing needs and will be supported over the next three years to scale across England for the benefit of NHS patients and staff.
